Atlantic Station Brownfield Redevelopment
Preconference Workshop
3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13
Join us in a grand experiment as we try a preconference workshop for those who wish to spend the weekend in Atlanta. There is no additional charge for the preconference workshop. We hope you enjoy it.
Atlantic Station is a national model for smart growth and sustainable development, located just north of Georgia Institute of Technology’s campus. Providing homes for 10,000 people, employment opportunities for 30,000, with shopping (including IKEA) and entertainment for millions more, this 24-hour community is a-buzz with pedestrian traffic on its wide boulevards and crowds of people in its sidewalk cafes and expansive parks. Add to that, the project is the largest urban Brownfield project in the United States.
Most interesting, the project started as a Georgia Tech student’s master’s thesis. The student, Brian Leary, promoted his work from college, found a development partner and made it a reality. Atlantic Station opened in 2005 to much fanfare in Atlanta and the nation.
